Blankids: A Versatile Display Font for Editorial Creativity

There’s something about the right font that can transform a design from ordinary to extraordinary. I recently found myself in the midst of redesigning the header for a lifestyle blog, and after testing several display fonts, Blankids stood out with its unique rhythm and expressive character. It wasn’t just a font—it felt like a voice, one that could carry the tone of the content while maintaining an air of elegance and approachability.

A Font That Speaks to the Reader

Blankids is a display font that balances playfulness with clarity. Its clean curves and subtle variations in stroke weight give it a friendly yet professional feel. It doesn’t shout or whisper—it converses. This makes it particularly well-suited for editorial layouts where the goal is to draw attention without overwhelming the reader.

I tested it on a feature page for a digital magazine focused on wellness and self-care. Used as a headline for a section titled “Mindful Living,” Blankids added just the right amount of warmth and personality. The letterforms didn’t distract from the message—they enhanced it.

Where Blankids Shines in Editorial Design

Display fonts are often reserved for headlines, but Blankids has enough versatility to be used in more nuanced ways. In the same magazine project, I experimented with using it for pull quotes. The result was striking—the font’s soft edges made the quotes feel inviting, almost like a personal note from the editor.

For a recipe ebook I worked on, Blankids became the go-to font for chapter titles. It brought a sense of creativity and approachability that matched the tone of the content. When paired with a clean sans serif font for body copy, the contrast helped establish visual hierarchy and guided the reader effortlessly through the pages.

In a coaching workbook, I used Blankids for section headings and decorative accents. It added a touch of personality without detracting from the structured nature of the content. The font’s readability on screen and in print made it ideal for both digital and physical formats.

Readability and Practical Considerations

While Blankids is undeniably expressive, it’s important to use it thoughtfully. It excels in short bursts—headlines, pull quotes, and decorative elements—but may not be suitable for dense paragraphs or small captions. For longer reading, pairing it with a readable serif or sans serif font ensures that the content remains accessible and easy to follow.

When designing for mobile layouts, I noticed that Blankids maintained its legibility even at smaller sizes. However, for formal reports or academic publications, a more traditional typeface might be better suited to the context.

Before incorporating Blankids into any project, it’s worth checking the available styles, ligatures, and multilingual support. For commercial use in ebooks, templates, or client projects, ensuring proper licensing is essential to avoid any legal issues.

Pairing Blankids with Other Fonts

One of the joys of working with display fonts is finding the perfect complement. For a newsletter header, I paired Blankids with a modern sans serif font for navigation and captions. The contrast was subtle but effective, creating a balanced and cohesive design.

In a printable planner, Blankids was used for monthly headers, while a classic serif font handled the daily entries. This combination provided a nice contrast between creativity and structure, making the layout both engaging and functional.

For those new to font pairing, starting with a display font like Blankids and a clean, readable font for body text is a safe and effective strategy. It allows the design to breathe while keeping the focus on the content.

Whether you're working on a blog redesign, digital magazine, or printable guide, Blankids offers a fresh and expressive option that can elevate your editorial designs. It's not just a font—it's a tool for storytelling, one that brings your content to life with style and grace.
